A beautiful hand framed reprint of New York, directly based on an antique engraving first drawn in the 1700s (and republished in 1863).
Drawn from the prospect of Long Island looking across the East River, this view captures lower Manhattan as it appeared about 250 years ago with sailing ships, busy figures, church steeples and rooftops.
The print highlights landmarks of early New York with a key in the right hand corner - some of which sill survive today. Notably, it depicts the 'French Church' (marked on the key as L)- better known as St Paul's Chapel, the city's oldest church building still standing at Broadway and Fulton Street. And other sites marked - such as the City Hall, the Exchange, several churches and the old fort, no longer exist, but provide a fascinating snapshot of history.
Hand framed in a soft sea-green mount with a linen accent border and set in a deep blue textured frame. The neutral tones of the print pair elegantly with the blocks of colour, making it a striking addition to many modern or traditional interior space.
All our reprint collections are limited in number and originate directly from antiques personally sourced by Petri Prints.
