Argentina (Miniature Playing Card Map)

£110.00

A unique miniature map reprint representing areas within Argentina. Based directly on an antique hand-drawn playing card from a geographical game created nearly 300 years ago in Paris. This map refers to four locations within Argentina: Buenos Aires, Santa Fe, Asunción and Corrientes. With additional text and illustrations for the Paraguay river, Paraguay, and a village on the Amazon River assumed to be Manaus (capital of the Amazonas state in Brazil).

One complete antique set of this game (which includes decks for all countries known the time of publication) exists in the British Museum. Whereas only a handful of other sets are thought to exist in composite parts around the world - including the antique we sourced on which to base this reprint.

Hand framed in an off white mount with a beautiful pale blue accent border and gold leaf frame.

All our reproduction collections are limited in number, glazed with Artglass and originate from antiques specially sourced by Petri Prints.
