Babar in the Bath

£138.00

A joyful scene, depicting Babar splashing in the bath. Directly based on an original lithograph from the 1930s we personally sourced for our private archive. The illustration shows Babar lying back with a traditional yellow sea sponge, in an old fashioned clawfoot bath (playfully coloured with green feet).

Our print is beautifully presented in a soft blue wooden frame with rounded bobbins - and set in a double mount (a clean off white with a linen texture and a thin pale blue inner border that balances the colour of the frame).

The decorative leafy border surrounding Babar originates from an original hand-blocked design, carefully printed by Rosie. The pattern was then incorporated into the reprint artwork, preserving the detail of the handcrafted motif. This is finished against a background directly based on genuine 1700s laid paper, enhancing its period charm with the warm texture and irregularities of historic handmade plates.

All our reprint collections are limited in number and originate directly from antiques personally sourced by Petri Prints.
